Amy Lawson, M.D.

Dr. Amy Lawson is a pediatric hospitalist at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.  A native of Missouri, she earned a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, then an M.D. from Washington University in St. Louis.  She completed her pediatric residency training at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

In addition to her clinical duties, Dr. Lawson is the medical director of the School of Medicine’s standardized patient (SP) program.  She oversees student experiences with SP’s throughout the four-year curriculum, with duties including case writing, exam design, SP training, and student grading and feedback.  Her research interests in the field of medical education include the use of SP encounters to teach as well as test medical students, the early identification and remediation of students in need of clinical skills improvement, and the training of residents as teachers.  She won a Distinguished Service Teaching Award in 2009.
