SUBJECT: Application for Admission

Thank you for your interest in attending Washington University School of Medicine.

The information on this web site will guide you through the application process. I urge you to complete your application promptly. Completed applications are reviewed individually to select candidates for personal interviews with a member of the Committee on Admissions. Because we do not conduct regional interviews, each applicant's personal and academic achievements are considered carefully before we extend an invitation to visit St. Louis.

We are proud of our medical school. Over the past century, Washington University School of Medicine has emerged as one of the best in the world. Among the many things that have contributed to this reputation, several have direct bearing on your education. These include:

• Outstanding resources for learning to practice clinical medicine in our two top-ranked hospitals, St. Louis Children's Hospital and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, which together have approximately 1,500 beds and attract more than 780,000 outpatient visits a year;

• Extensive opportunities for learning biomedical research in our superior facilities through the Medical Scientist Training Program (MD/PhD) and the Clinical Research Fellowship Program (MA/MD);

• An exceptional student body taught by world-renowned and inspiring teachers;

• Diverse opportunities for community service; plus

• Abundant cultural and recreational opportunities in St. Louis.

Our aim is to acquaint you with our school and to make the application process as straightforward as possible. If you have any questions, I invite you to contact me by letter, e-mail or fax.

Best wishes as you embark on the next step of your career in medicine.
