Gregory Polites, M.D.
Dr. Gregory Polites is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and an Assistant Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program.
He received his BSBA from Washington University in St. Louis and his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. After two years of training in Diagnostic Radiology at Saint Louis University Health Sciences Center he completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He then joined the full-time faculty of the School of Medicine.
In addition to his clinical work Dr. Polites has been very active in medical education at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels. Since 2005 he has been the course director of Biology 2651 (MedPrep) – a unique course that prepares undergraduate students for the application and interview process to medical school while also giving them a preview of a life in medicine.
As a member of the Faculty Advisory Program he serves as a mentor to several medical students per year acts as an 4 th year academic advisor to students planning a career in emergency medicine.
Since 2006 Dr. Polites has served as one of the Assistant Directors of the Emergency Medicine Residency Program and in this role is very active in training and education of his residents. In 2005 he received the Golden Stethoscope Award for outstanding clinical teaching in Emergency Medicine.
In addition to his role as a Divisional Representative to the University Faculty Senate Council, Dr. Polites serves as a divisional liaison to the Departments of Diagnostic Radiology, Acute and Critical Care Surgery and Orthopedic Surgery. He is also a member of the BJH Code Committee and has been an active member of the School of Medicine's Committee on Admissions since 2005. On the weekends he serves as the code and airway physician for the St. Louis Rams.
