Dr. Barbara B. Sterkel

Barbara B. Sterkel, M.D. received her B.A. degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and her M.D. degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine. Boarded in Internal Medicine and Nuclear Medicine she joined Washington University School of Medicine, Division of Bone and Mineral Metabolism because of special interests in bone health, specifically osteoporosis, and women's health issues. Since she founded the Missouri Osteoporosis Foundation ten years ago, she has aggressively promoted physician education, public awareness, and research in this field. Her current projects regarding osteoporosis include developing a state-wide educational program with the Missouri Department of Health, research in diagnostic techniques and clinical intervention trials.
